US security agencies single out six Chinese companies, including DeepSeek

On the 8th, the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a joint cybersecurity advisory. They accused six Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) companies—including DeepSeek—of using “distillation” techniques to extract proprietary features and capabilities from advanced U.S. AI models on a large scale, thereby accelerating the training of their own products.

According to Reuters, the named companies include DeepSeek, Moonshot AI, and Alibaba; U.S. officials further alleged that these activities were “likely conducted with the knowledge of the Chinese government.”
